Bikutsi is a music and dance tradition of the Beti peoples of the Centre region, around Yaoundé.1 Rooted in songs traditionally performed with balafons and percussion, it is known for its driving rhythm.1

From the second half of the twentieth century, musicians adapted bikutsi to electric guitars and modern bands, and it became one of the most popular styles in the country.1

Community-specific practices and regional variants of bikutsi are on InsideKamer's research backlog; we will document them with attribution.
