Editorial policy

How information gets onto InsideKamer, how we label it, and how it gets fixed.

Sources and their hierarchy

We prefer sources closest to the facts. When sources disagree, we say so and attribute each claim.

  • Primary: official gazettes, laws and decrees, ministry and agency publications, statistical offices, court and parliamentary records.
  • Authoritative secondary: international organisations, academic and scholarly works, established reference works.
  • Journalism: used for current events and context, never as the sole basis for a legal or constitutional fact.
  • Community and user-contributed material: leads for research, not sources of record, until corroborated.

How a record is made

Records are compiled by researchers from the sources above, cited to source documents, and held as provisional. An editor then checks the record against its sources before it is marked as verified.

Officeholders and other time-bound facts are derived from dated appointments, not stored as free text, so they cannot silently go out of date.

Contested topics

Cameroon's history and politics include real disagreement, for example over the terms of the 1961 union or the 1972 move to a unitary state. We do not pick a side. We describe each position, attribute it to those who hold it, cite sources for each, and mark the record as contested where credible sources conflict.

Corrections

Anyone can suggest a correction from any page or from the corrections form. A suggestion never changes a page by itself: an editor reviews it against evidence, and the change, when made, is recorded in the page's history. Corrections to news items are shown on the item.

AI-assisted answers

Where InsideKamer answers a question with the help of an AI model, the answer is built only from our sourced records and cites them. If our records do not contain the answer, it says so rather than guessing.

Verification statuses

Every record and article carries one of these statuses.

Verified (primary source)
Checked by an editor against a primary source.
Corroborated
Supported by two or more independent credible sources.
Editorially reviewed
Reviewed by an editor, but not tied to a single primary source.
Provisional — awaiting verification
Compiled from the cited sources; not yet checked by an editor.
Contested
Credible sources disagree. Each position is attributed.
Outdated
Was correct at some point but a newer source supersedes it.
Rejected
Found to be wrong. Kept internally, never shown as fact.

News labels

Headlines in the news aggregator carry one of these labels. They describe the reporting, not our own view of events.

Developing

Unverified
Reported by a publisher, not independently checked by InsideKamer. This is the default.
